Last night while surfing the web, Amelia ran into this little article on MSN's home page. I thought it was a nice bit of information to consider while planning your wedding. The article was written by the Knot.

Wedding Guests' Secret Gripes
You've been to a few weddings yourself, so you know there are just some things that can rub you the wrong way. Here are a few helpful reminders about what guests can't stand.

You may think your wedding is all about you and your groom (or maybe just you) but, hello, you're hosting a party! If your guests are miserable, your wedding will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. So we talked to dozens of frequent wedding guests — from always-a-bridesmaids to recent brides to guys in their 20s and 30s — to find out what they hated about the events they've attended. We've kept the guests' names secret just in case they're coming to your wedding!

Your Timing Stinks
Huge time gaps between the ceremony and the reception — the ones where the ceremony starts at noon, but the party isn't until 7 p.m. — are annoying because you're often leaving us in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing to do. We don't want to kill time at a restaurant because we're hoping you'll feed us well at your reception. And there's only so much lingering we can do at a coffee shop or a bookstore ... in our dressy clothes! We'd much rather head straight to the party after the "I dos."

You Picked a Bad Day
We've had weddings on every holiday, from Mother's Day to Super Bowl Sunday (yes, that counts as a holiday). You must realize that we'd rather be with our moms or watching the game instead of going to your wedding on those days. And please don't ruin our holiday weekends. We get it; you can save a bundle if you get hitched on the Sunday before Memorial Day, but maybe we'd like to take our vacations then. If nothing else, please don't get married on some random Tuesday night. That means we have to take off two days from work just to go! Let us use our vacation days for vacations.

You're Boring Us
The ceremony may be the most important part of the day to you, but the reception is what we're really looking forward to. When it takes forever to get dinner served, each speech is 25 minutes long, and you play a string of songs that are all inside jokes with the same group of friends, there isn't much time for getting our groove on. Uh, and if the band's so bad that no one's dancing — including you and your groom — we just think, Why are we even here? Showing us a really good time is the least that you can do to thank us for giving up our free day, traveling, and getting you an expensive gift.

The Food Isn't Great
Why would you bother spending thousands on your flowers if your food is going to taste terrible? We want a delicious meal way more than we want pretty centerpieces. You don't know this, but we actually think of that $200 gift as a contribution to a great meal. If it's not as good as something we'd have at a restaurant, we're going to be disappointed. Even if the food is tasty, don't make us go hungry. We don't need an eight-course meal, but we don't want to have to push through other guests just to get to the tiny hors d'oeuvres you're calling dinner.

You Make Us Pay?!
Treat your guests like guests; don't make us bring our wallets whenever we want a drink! When you have more than 300 guests and a cash bar, we wish that you would've just cut the list and paid for our drinks instead. How exactly are we supposed to feel when we paid for flights, a rental car, a hotel room, and a gift, and then you make us pay at the bar? So not cool.

You Sat Us Here
We want to have fun at your wedding, believe us, but it's pretty tricky when you seat us right in front of giant speakers. We won't be able to talk to anyone at our tables or enjoy our dinner if you're blowing out our eardrums. Before you book your venue, make sure there's enough space for tables without having to make us sit in the DJ's lap. And don't make us suffer in the heat. If you're having a summer wedding, do it somewhere with air conditioning!

Also, if you want to be outdoors, don't make us rough it: Walking around in the mud, swatting bugs, or using porta-potties is even less fun in formal attire. And please give us plenty of places to sit. Cocktail hours are great, but it's pretty tough to balance our plates, drinks, and purses while standing — in heels no less!

You Don't Invite a Plus-One
Nothing reminds us of our dating status like a wedding. No need to rub it in our faces with even more reminders. The garter and bouquet tosses are like saying, "Hey, look at them. They're single!" Could you blame us if we hide in the bathroom as soon as the DJ announces it? And, come on, even if they did honestly predict we'd be the next to marry, do we really want some cheesy guy slipping garters up our legs? Of course, we'd prefer to be invited with a date, but we get why you may not be able to give us that, especially if we'll know lots of other people there. But if everyone we know is making out with their significant other all night, we're going to be pissed that you couldn't include one extra person to make us feel a little more comfortable.

You Put Us to Work
We know we'll have to help out with some tasks when we agree to be in the bridal party, but it's insulting when you consider a task like manning the guest book table an honor. We'd rather just be a regular guest at the wedding than have some silly duty like that. At the very least, give us a heads up if you'll need our help. Don't spring flower girl babysitting duties on us minutes before the reception.

You Don't Say Thank You
It's frustrating when we fly all the way to your wedding and you don't take the time to thank us for making the trip. Even if we haven't come a long way, make an effort to thank us for coming anyway. We know it's hard to talk to every guest at the wedding, but that's why, at the very least, we better get a thank-you card from you when you get back from your honeymoon!

Laguna Beach Engagement session with Karla & Eddie

A couple months ago I was contacted by Karla in regards to photographing her wedding. After the both of us hit it off so well, It was a must to shoot Karla and Eddie's wedding. I usually get an Idea of the type of setting that my couples would like their engagement session to be in. Once we figured out that Karla loves the beach so much we decided that Laguna was the place for her and Eddie. At first Karla Started out a little nervous but after Eddie chimed in with his antics, Karla warmed up the camera really easy. As for Eddie, Can you say HAM? He was goofing off right from the start. Five Absolutes when choosing your Wedding Photographer

So you're meeting your prospective wedding photographer for the first time. You found them on a Google search, and their site seems nice enough. But how do you really know they are the best for you?

The easiest answer is also the most ridiculous; in 30 initial minutes you can't. BUT ... there are a few things you can look for to become more comfortable with your decision.

1. Relationship - Relationship - Relationship
The absolute most important aspect to you reaping the results you desire from your final wedding photography is that you fall in LOVE with your wedding photographer(s). And by LOVE I don't mean you'd ebay your rings, cancel your date and marry them - but I do mean you feel so comfortable that you'd be able to brag about them to your closest friends or have them over for dinner at your house.

A wedding photographer worth hiring doesn't take pictures, and that sounds totally weird, I know. A great wedding photographer isn't really a photographer at all but an artist who uses a camera and lens to paint and CAPTURE MOMENTS in digital files filled with emotion and passion. Their images - each and every one - CAPTURE a narrative or story that with one glance creates an emotion from the viewer; namely you. ANYBODY can take a picture, especially with the advances in today's geeky low-priced digital cameras. But only true wedding photography ARTISTS can capture your story with passion and emotion.

Someone who is bestowed such a precious and significant task as being your ONLY wedding photographer must be someone you absolutely love and admire. In fact, a true wedding photography artist will almost always be easy to be comfortable with because they themselves are depending on building a strong relationship with you so they may better understand what is important to your final outcome.

2. Passion
Ask your prospective wedding photographer if they take their cameras with them to family birthday parties or if they shoot pictures of their niece's soccer games. Only someone passionate about their craft integrates that passion into their lives - and a great wedding photography artist always integrates their passion into their lives.

When you're sitting across the table from them, how do they make you feel? Are you getting excited about your day as they talk about their involvement? When they talk about their product, do they exhibit a kind of giddiness or are they just selling? What adjective comes to your mind to describe them if you were asked 5 minutes after you've left the appointment?

Passion HAS to at least be a likely adjective you could choose. If not? Run - do not walk - to the next photographer.

You see - any great wedding photography artist is in the "game" for more than just the coin. They are always - and I mean always - looking to become your wedding photographer because they are passionate about painting your special story with the lenses of their camera that tell the story through fine art photography. In fact, a passionate wedding photography artist will always be a remarkable artist.

3. No new stress - please!
The wedding photographer sitting across the table from you has no idea what your plans are for your upcoming fairy-tale day. In fact, just because they've taken pictures for hundreds of brides before you, there are no other weddings even close in style or substance as yours, period.

If your prospective wedding photographer isn't asking the right questions of you, questions pertaining to your day, how YOU plan it to unfold, how many bridesmaids, groomsmen, the venue, is there going to be dancing, will your dad walk you down the aisle, who your maid-of-honor is and who she is to you ...

If they are insisting on showing you their previous work, and how awesome they are, and who they've photographed before ever asking about how YOU envision your day? RUN - do not walk - to the next prospective photographer.

The most counter-productive and stressful situation is to have your wedding photographer not clearly understand your time line. And the best scenario in this situation is to have a needy, whiney, and question ridden person running around taking pictures creating more stress. The worst scenario? They don't ask and subsequently don't GET the pictures you envisioned. In either scenario? Stress and disaster.

Actually, the absolute BEST scenario is a wedding photographer who sits across the table and interviews YOU. That's right, you've invited them to the table to choose them - but what you really want is someone who wants to work with you because you both click. Someone who asks you a bunch of questions, and diligently writes down YOUR answers about YOUR day as they interview YOU. Why? Because when they truly understand YOUR day, and how it will unfold, you have found someone who doesn't need to create stress on your day (or before), you've found someone capable of discovering and understanding what you want prior to your day. Someone who can click with you (and hopefully - FOR you - wink).

4. Show me your stuff
More than likely, you've seen a lot of your prospective wedding photographer's work (and probably their best work) from their web site. And having a look at an album or prints or canvas or ... is a good thing too. But understand this, nothing they show you across the table is going to be what you get - ever. You are seeing a compilation of work from perhaps their best work, which is understandable. But even on a perfect day, no two weddings are the same, nor are any two wedding albums, or prints, or ... the same.

Obviously your wedding photographer needs to be able to nail their focus, and exposures, and all of those technical photography details in order to even be considered. But, going back to the number one "must" - other bride's relationships with your photographer have got to be great.

Ask your potential wedding photographer to give you a couple of brides you can contact. And when they provide those names, call those brides and ask one question; "What do you remember most about Photographer xx?" That's it! You'll get the whole story from that one question. And the best part? You'll also get your answer overall from that question.

5. It's gotta be fun
Ask the wedding photographer this question; "So what do you do for fun?" Not that you need to care WHAT they do for fun - but you do care if they do anything that IS FUN.

Just because your wedding photographer will be working as a "vendor" on your awesome day does NOT mean they have to portray it as work. They have to have fun at it - and you've got to have fun at it - and that does NOT mean it's up to you to make it fun. THEY have to make it fun - the whole day. It may be 98 degrees in the shade or 2 below zero - but THEY have to be able to roll with the punches or change direction at any given time and still make it fun and stress-free for your entire party.

And there is really no way to know if that person you just met is that person other than to know they know how to have fun on their own, hence "So what do you do for fun?"

Fun = happy. Stress = ugly. Which do you choose?

Downtown Los Angeles Wedding Photography with Fernando & Marlene

When Marlene & Fernando got married it was all about tradition. One of those traditions being not seeing each other prior to the ceremony. The nice thing was that they allotted plenty of time after their ceremony for their romantic session together. We started out at Union train station for some of their pre wedding photos. New Products: Metal Murals for Orange County Weddings

Last year while at the WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) convention I ran into a vendor with a peculiar first name. Her first name was Pola. {Pronounced Paula) Whoa thats my last name.
When I saw their product I was amazed. Not only at the possibility of having images printed on to metal but more the quality! The quality of this product's printing methods is far superior than that of some of the biggest professional photo labs. I knew that at that point I could offer an amazing new product to my clients that would help our studio stand out from all the rest. Here are a couple of images of the Metal Murals. Conjunto Oye Live at Cafe Sevilla In Long Beach, Ca

I was recently commisioned to photograph this energy Salsa band based out of Los Angeles' Westside. We specialize in "New York" Flavored salsa & Mambo. Our sound is considered "Salsa Dura" with influences from Willie Colon, Manny Oquendo, Eddie Palmieri, Machito, The two Titos, Jimmy Bosch, Spanish Harlem Orquestra and many more. We are one of the few LA Salsa bands with this spicy flavor. Their name is Conjunto Oye

Orange County Wildflowers ~ The Girls

We woke the girls up early, got them ready and went out in search of wild flowers. At this time in orange county, usually from the middle of March to the first week of April local wild flowers are in bloom. Its pretty easy to find mustard seed wild flowers through out OC at this time of year. Here are some of my favorites from our shoot.

It's almost impossible to get Nayah & Ava to hold hands and take photos. I was all over this like white on rice!

Baby Ryann is 9 Months old

Dinner By the Bay, The Reef in Long Beach Ca.

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity of attending and photographing the yearly fund raiser for the Project Cuddle Organization. Like in years past the host and spokes person, John Stamos was in attendance. The Project cuddle organization is an amazing group who of people who help abandoned babies and mothers in crisis.

How It All Began

Project Cuddle™ is the result of one woman's crusade to help prevent infants from being abandoned. Debbe Magnusen fostered over 30 drug-exposed babies, while raising two biological children. Eventually five of those beautiful little ones were adopted and became part of the Magnusen Family.

The Project Cuddle™ crisis line was actually formed from the living room of Debbe's home, with the hope of ending baby abandonment. Within 12 hours of opening the 24 hour crisis-line, Project Cuddle got its first crisis call. A frightened woman that had hidden her pregnancy from everyone she knew, was due to deliver any and had no prenatal care. There was no time to waste. Debbe had only days to orchestrate a safe and legal alternative to abandonment, Project Cuddle™ was able to retain an attorney, a family wanting to rescue and adopt the baby, as well as an obstetrician, hospital and social counselor, Debbe Magnusen coached this woman through the delivery of a beautiful baby girl. After the baby was delivered into the arms of the adoptive parents, the birth mother said to Debbe. "I feel like I've done something good for the first time." The woman did not break the law, the baby was safe and a rescue couple was overjoyed at having a new daughter in their lives.

Statistics indicate that 57
children are abandoned everyday
Tragically, babies are being abandoned across the nation on a daily basis. Since its inception, Project Cuddle™ has saved over 600 of babies across the country and into Canada from the fate of being abandoned, or worse. John Stamos is the National Spokesperson for the organization. With John's help, the charity has been able to create a school video to educate students on the importance of calling for help instead of abandoning your baby. Oprah and John Surprised Debbe and Project Cuddle™ by being featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Project Cuddle™ was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity in 1994. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the organization, which Debbe runs on a day-to-day basis with the assistance of volunteers and a minimally-paid staff. Your generous donations are always appreciated and help us to save the lives of more babies from the fate of abandonment.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of shooting the ever so great "Dinner by the bay event" at The Reef in Long Beach, California. This year was extra special because not only was it sold out, but several celebrities showed up and helped raise thousands of dollars at the event. There were silent auctions, Live auctions and for the first time, you were able to make a flat donation of $2,500 to save a baby. It costs project cuddle approximately $2,500 to save each baby. The project cuddle president Frank Lozano asked every who would like to save a baby by donating $2,500 to come up to the stage with in 5 min the entire stage was full. Great Job Frank!
The celebrities that were in attendance were John Stamos, Scott Grimes from E.R. along with the rest of the er cast. Jillian Barberie was also in attendance. The event was great as usual I had an amazing time covering the event. Debbe, Thank you for allowing me to take part in this amazing event.

Tustin Ranch Golf Club Wedding Photography With Don & Teresa

Talk about having the two nicest people! The forecast for the day was showers. The drive to the venue only alluded to the showers in the forecast. The ceremony was scheduled for 10:30 am but was bumped up a half hour. With the light sprinkles everyone including Mieng & I scurried to bring patio umbrellas to shield guest from the water. The only Teresa cared about was marrying Don. "I will walk down isle in the pouring rain if I have to. And she did. What a trooper, not a care in the world. After the rain subsided were able capture some great images. here are some of my favorites. feel free to comment.

With rain in the forcast the day of the wedding, we lucked out again and got through our day with out a drop. Lauraine looked gorgeous as ever! San Pedro Engagement Photography with Bill & Evelyn

So a few months back I get a call from a good friend of mine. As I answer the phone, all I hear on the other side was "Hey, I'm getting married and your shooting my wedding!" Bill and I have know each for a little over 11 years now. We went to photography school together. We both shot our first wedding together about 9.5 years ago. We were just so excited to be shooting a wedding we barely had any idea of what the heck we were doing.
Bill Now runs a studio out of Whittier Ca. Classic Images Photography. On occasion we still help each out when our schedules permit.
On to Evelyn , This was the first real time I had met and spent some time with Evelyn and I think we hit it off. One thing I really did notice about Evelyn was how much she was in love with Bill. That alone made me all warm and fuzzy inside. To see a close friend of mine find love is something I enjoy!

Sunday, I had the opportunity to take part in an Olita school fundraiser. The fundraiser was coordinated by the school. I shoot all the images. The sessions were held at a park local to the school, The session fee went directly to the school. Here are some of my favorites of the first session.

Downtown Orange Engagement Photography With James & Jihan

The day is warm and beautiful. James arrives at the park fashionably late. He walks over to his good friend Marisa to say hello. Standing with Marisa is Jihan, Marisa introduces James to Jihan. James nervously says hello and walks away to hang out with some of his friends. While chatting with the boys James could not help but to glance over at Jihan every few minutes that day...
Fast forward two years later... The doorbell rings, it’s James, arriving at the same luncheon that Jihan was invited to. The two talked, laughed and talked some more. By the end of the luncheon, James rounded up enough courage to ask Jihan out to Starbucks to get to know each other better. By the end of the Starbucks date they both felt a real connection.
After several months of courtship, Jihan realized this was the man she would marry.
James & Jihan will become one on December 20th, 2008 amongst their closet family and friends.
I can’t wait for your wedding day! The two of you are truly a match that was made in heaven!

Orange County's Triangle Complex Fire

Triangle Complex Fire, which broke out along Riverside Freeway (91), has destroyed at least 104 residences in Anaheim, Yorba Linda, Brea and Corona, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. Between 20,000-23,000 people were evacuated. Six firefighters suffered minor injuries.
As we were glued to the television set, we could not help but to worry about many of our friends who live in the affected areas. Many of the evacuees that were interviewed on television talked about the importance of having important, irreplaceable documents and items in a central location to be quickly accessed in the event of a fire. I was not amazed to hear how many people talked about grabbing their wedding albums and irreplaceable photos off the walls as they were being evacuated by sheriff departments. I cant stress how important family and wedding photos are such an important part of everyone's life. They are your memories that at times can not be replaced.
To those of you who were directly affected and lost everything that you call home, May god bless you and help you recover your loses quickly. Remember you are still blessed with your family's well being.

Over two years of campaigning was resolved with a record voter turnout, as the Republican candidate John McCain conceded graciously at 11:20 pm eastern Tuesday night. With such a high level of interest and attention, there have been millions of words written and photographs taken of the candidates over the past year. Pumpkin Carving Contest

A couple weeks back while Que'ing (BBQ) it up with Mark and Laura we decided to have a Pumpkin Carving Contest. with all of our neighbors. So the date was set, and the neighbors were invited. That day was this past Saturday. Once everyone there was done with their pumpkins, I set off to find some some judges. The problem was that most of our neighbors were already participants in the contest. We all wanted a non bias judge. So when I walked to our front yard I noticed a nice couple walking their dog and asked them for their assistance. They gladly agreed. After deliberating for a whole 3 minutes they determined the winner being the skull carving. That carving was done by Amelia. So the winner was Amelia (my wife). The winning pumpkin is the vertical image in the pumpkin collage. There were even "R" Rated carvings. like the Jailed pumpkin (Marks), and the pumpkin who blew his brains out! Muckenthaler Mansion Wedding Wine Tasting Soiree

So last week I was invited to the Muckenthaler Masion wine tasting soiree. For those of you who don't what a soiree is, it's just a fancy name for party or gathering. This was a soiree to preview the Muck's Italian Garden ceremony courtyard. With over 100 people in attendance the soiree seemed to be a huge success! With music and lighting furnished by Black Tie Events and live saxophone by Norm Douglas and many other industry people such as Steve Burdick of Steve Burdick Events, Fusion Linens, Tiffany of Tustin Ranch Golf Club, of course the Colletes Catering and the ever so sweet Natalie Good and her husband of the Meridian Club in Fullerton. These Events are great to meet Industry people and be able to get to know each other with out having to work 100 miles an hour. Thanks Natalie for the invitation. I had a great time!

Disneyland Engagement Photography with Michael + Lissette = Fun!

While putting on her character costume to get ready for the hundreds of kids who would be posing with her for photos, on the other side of the park was a really cool, easy going, bad ass, thunder ranch cowboy ready to serve some home style barbecue. Without knowing each other they continued with their daily disneyland rituals.
Fast forward about a year and a half later... Michael decides what the hell let me go get a facial. He walks in and there was Lissette ready and willing to give Michael his first facial. Even while going to sister private high schools, little did they know they were to going marry one another. Their wedding is set for April 25, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Habra and the reception is to be held at Los Coyote Golf Club I can't wait to shoot your wedding you guys!

Anthony + Lauraine = Awesome

Sunday was a fun, yet busy day. It started out at the Balboa pier. I met up with Anthony and Lorraine to get to know them a little better and to shoot their e-session. I love early morning shoots on the beach. They're nice because there's hardly anyone there and it allows us to get lots done. Anthony flew in to see Lauraine this past weekend from NY where he attends dental school. Can you say long distance relationship? I think its awesome how much these two love each other. They just look so sweet together. Here are just a few of my favorites. I can't wait for the big day you guys! Feel free to comment on the ones you like.

It was so funny, because they both kept asking, "Do we look cheesy or goofy?" I told they looked like Rock Stars. Don't they? They look awesome!

Master Photographers In Training

Several months back I was asked to participate with a local group of photographers who are hosting a 2 day conference. Those two days are October 12-13, yeah this Sunday & Monday. My participation will consist of speaking and conducting a seminar on "How to Create a value for Your Work". The fun Part is that it will all be in spanish. There will be several Master Photographers coming in from Mexico. There will be a print competition & judging will be held on Sunday at 3 pm. I look forward to speaking at this event. Anthony & Jessica | Married ~ Waterfront Hilton, Huntington Beach

When I met Anthony and Jessica I knew these two were going to be fun. We started the day out at the Garden Room in Garden Grove. Jessica was calm as ever. Anthony, Lets just say he was ready to make her his bride. The two of them wrote their own vows and stated their love for one another.

After the formals & fun dancing was over. We had a little fun of our own. We took off to Huntington Beach's Waterfront Hilton for a fun photo shoot of the two of them alone. It was awesome, we got out onto the beach and had a blast. Thanks Anthony & Jessica for having us at your wedding. We had a great time.

Michael & Tracie tied the knot at the beautiful Prado at Balboa Park. The day started at the beautiful La Costa Resort. There we met up with Tracie and her awesome bridesmaids. These two were meant for each other. They're two peas in a pod. They compliment each other so well. The way they both look into each others eyes you can really tell in was a match made in heaven.

Rolando & Alma | Married

Rolando & Alma's Wedding was a long time coming. See, Rolando & Alma were scheduled to wed last year on 07/07/07, but due to an unfortunate accident their wedding was post-poned until this year. While on his way to work, Alma's father had a stroke while driving. Thats were the accident comes in. Alma's father was in a coma for sometime. While prayers came in from their family and friends Rolando and Alma decided to post-pone their wedding until august of this year. Well, Alma's father pulled through his coma and was able to attend his daughter's wedding. Can you say a miracle?
Rolando & Alma were married in Anahiem, & had their reception in the city of Brea, Ca. Here are a few of my favorites from their wedding.

So a while back Amelia approaches me with a proposition. She starts by telling about this guy at her job that is kick ass painter/ artist. Those of you who know me, know that I am picky as hell when it comes to photos and paintings of photos. So initially, I thought, does this guy have a website? Does he have samples of his work. Let's see his portfolio! Well, he did'nt have a website, and his portfolio was on his cell phone. Photos he had taken with his cell phone of his work. Initially I was like, well i don't know, I don't want to throw money away! Well she finally convinced me to go for it. After of months, low and behold!

Road trip for a mini vacation to San Francisco

A couple of weeks ago Amelia & I pack up the girls for a little road trip. We shot up to San Francisco, with a quick stop at the magnificent Hearst Castle, nestled in the San Simeon hills, over looking the ocean. Man, William had a crap load of money!!!!! After a small tour of the Castle we continued our road trip up to S.F.

This was a great trip for our girls. They had a blast! We hit several hot spots. Some of them were the Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, Coit Tower, the Victorian Houses, the Observatory (awesome!) This city is amazing, and has lots of history. Thats what i love about it. Were are planning another trip back. Here are a few images of our trip.

I met up with Joe & Natalie yesterday for a little e-session fun. We started up at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. Joe & Natalie were super easy to work with. They were pretty much up for anything. They are going to be getting married at the Richard Nixon Library, on October 11, 2008. I cant wait to get together with these two and their wild bunch of friends. Congrats you guys!

On Saturday I drove down to San Diego for the beautiful wedding of Alex & Jose. What a change of pace! The last few weeks here have been quite warm and down in SD it was a nice 70 degrees with a nice breeze.

The wedding was held at the beautiful Hilton San Diego Resort. With the ceremony being outside on the beautifully landscaped garden area. The reception was held at the poolside patio over looking mission bay. The entire wedding design was left to the amazing duo of Katie Gizzi & Shannon Yarbrough of Simply Exquisite Events who did an absolutely amazing job creating this destination wedding for Alex and Jose. Gotta give up to the DJ of DJ GUY who keep the music bumpin' and the guest out on the dance floor the entire night!

Ever since I could remember I have been a big fan of Salsa Music. Listening to the classic great Power houses of the salsa Music like El Gran Combo, Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Ismael Rivera, Manny Oquendo & Conjunto Libre & many more. This past week I got a call from my brother Carlos (who by the way is the lead singer of Conjunto Oye a LA Salsa Band) letting me know that The Spanish Harlem Orquestra was in town.

Since we've had our girls Amelia & I haven't had the pleasure of going out dancing & enjoying live music as much as we'd like. So, we packed the girls up and drop them off with my awesome niece Alicia and hit the dance floor! We had a blast!

At a young age, Tracie knew that she had a passion for music. Her passion was so intense that she began to learn how to play several instruments with ease. As she grew up she realized that her music talents were very much above average. Tracie decided to major in music in college. While in College she realized that she wanted share her gift with as many people a she could. One way was to become a music teacher to impact as many young lives as she can.

Michael joined the Marines at a young age. Soon after boot camp Michael realized how much he loved serving his country. During his long stent serving our country Michael received his degree in counseling and what better way to help people than to counsel High School Teens.

Life has funny ways of placing people in different places at different times. Michael & Tracie met on the High School campus where they both impact young lives. Michael one of the schools counselors & Tracie the music teacher.

Los Angeles Ca. Mormon Temple Wedding

Busy weekend! After the shoot at the Ritz Carlton, Dana Point , I shot up to Los Angeles to Photograph the wedding of David & Jessica. David and Jessica said their vows in the Los Angeles Mormon Temple. While exiting the Temple they were greeted by plenty of cheers and applause from family and friends. After a brief family formal session, we set out for a few pre determined downtown locations for their romantic photo session. As you can see, we did some of their Wedding Photos at Union Train Station.

On Saturday we had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Mara & Ashley for their Florist, Shower Me Flowers. Yeah Thats right, their florist hired me to photograph their flowers for a new advertising campaign that she is embarking.

Although the day was a scorcher, the wedding went on without a hitch. Thanks to the amazing coordination of Wendy Dahl of The Dahl Wedding Company. With layers of rose pedals lining the aisle and flower arrangements floating in the courtyard water fountain, it's no wonder that Ashley was amazed with the transformation of the ceremony and reception areas. Anthony + Jessica : Engaged

It's late in the school year, the excitement is the air is mainly about the upcoming talent show. Little did Anthony know that he was about to notice his future wife for the first time.

During Anthony's senior year of high school, (Jessica's Junior Year) he was approached by a good friend to record his act for the upcoming talent show. Being the nice guy Anthony is he was down to help his friend out. While getting his gear ready to record, he noticed the next act coming on stage.

Onto the stage came this little girl wearing her school girl uniform carrying a base guitar bigger than she was. She sits down and the lights come on. There was Jessica Playing her rendition of "Brick house" on her base guitar. Powg---powg-powg-powg---powg---powg ! "She's A Briiick Hooouse, she's mighty mighty....." Little did Anthony know she was going to be his brick house!

Yesterday we went out to photograph their engagement session in Orange County and we had such a great time. Anthony & Jessica will be tying the knot in beautiful Orange County, Ca. on September 20, 2008. Congrats you two!

Mauricio + Tona : Married

With Clouds Brewing, we set out to cover the beautiful wedding of Mauricio & Tona. Chance of showers were in the forecast, but 100% chance of love prevailed.

Tona being of the California Central Valley and Mauricio originally from Canada, met in college and were lab partners for a science class. After a semester of science partners they both realized they had many common interests. Most importantly their interest for each other.

They still both reside in Northern California, Tona finishing up Medical school while Mauricio is tying up a couple of loose ends to finish up his Bachelors degree. They decided to Plan their wedding in Orange County to have a central location for family to be able attend from all over the world. Guests came from as far as Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Boston, Northern California.

Their Ceremony was held at the beautiful Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. Their reception immediately followed at the Anaheim Marriot Suites.

I also want to thank the Fabulous Gloria Mesa who was my second shooter for the day. Also Omar Valle who was my "bouncer" and also shot third with us. Thanks you guys I had a blast.

Sam + Vanessa = Hitched ~ Turnip Rose, Grand Newport Plaza

Our day started out in Cerritos. After grabbing a great lunch at Kabuki Sushi Restaurant, we shot over to the Vanessa's House and to grab a few shots of her and her family during the bridal prep. We then cruised over to the Turnip Rose ~ Grand Newport Plaza for the rest of the afternoon. As you can see below Vanessa looked amazing in her Mori Lee wedding gown. I do have to same Sam looked pretty damn good himself. The ambiance was filled with the live music of Sotoband. Here a some of my favorites of the day.

Robert + Michelle = Happy

With the temperature rising on this beautiful spring day, being indoors for this wedding at the Coyote Hills Country Club, in Fullerton, Ca. was probably one of the best places to be. Considering it was the beautiful location where Robert & Michelle were to be wed. I was lucky enough to have one of Beckers secret weapons, Brian Khang join me to photograph this beautiful event. We Had a blast together.

The ceremony site was lined with the beautiful floral designs of My good Friend Jenny B Floral Designs. Although the day was a scorcher Robert was the coolest one around. I thought for sure he was going to be nervous but he was as calm as can be. Michelle looked so giddy coming down the aisle and seeing her prince charming for the first time for the day.

For the reception Mike Carroll of Invisible Touch Event production, lighting & entertainment kept the music bumping and rocked the house.

In the last couple of months we've been here working away at album designs. Creating a family heirloom is one of the most rewarding parts of our jobs. The heirloom wedding album obviously starts with the documentation of the wedding itself. Then it goes into the design phase where we design the layout of these exquisite albums in order to create the most romantic, artistic, and intimately detailed storybook record of the events as they took place. The Signature Album is often described as a beautifully flowing, magazine-style photo-documentary. These fine art albums typically contain a variety of black-and-white and color full-page, half-page and quarter-page images, arranged to maximize their visual appeal and storytelling impact. All images are custom-printed using archival materials for heirloom longevity and museum-quality tonal reproduction. Albums are built to the time-honored standards of traditional Leather craftsmen from the softest leathers and finest, natural cloths, hand finished and accented with a personalized embossing. It is not uncommon to be working on 2 or more wedding albums at once. Saturday Efren and I took a nice long drive out to Palm Desert to photograph the wedding of Mike and Fabiola Ramos. The day was a warm one, but luckly for us the entire wedding ceremony and reception took place inside. Within a beautifully air conditioned location.

For the first look Fabiola arrived donning her beautifully designed Casablanca Wedding Dress while Mike awaited at the bottom of the stairs looking sharp as a tack. Boy did I have fun at this wedding! Some of you may remember Lola & CJ from the Rodeo Drive Engagement shoot a while back. Well, lets put it this way, Efren & I had a blast at this wedding. The music was jammin' the food was delicious and best of all, the bride and groom were completely and totally in love with each other! Which totally made our Job super easy! Lola was smokin' hot wearing her Morilee Dress as she came down the isle. So was CJ sportin' his chocolate Tux. When I say hot I mean HAUT! It felt like it was 110 degrees when they came down the Isle but I really think It was just them two coming together as one. Congrats Lola & CJ.

Photography Pricing

Well, I was checking out some fellow photographer blogs and i ran into a very cool blog by caught on film photography . Pamela and shawn wrote an article on why Photography is so expensive. I wanted to post it here on my blog for all of our viewers to check out and comment on. So here it is.

Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?

 (This article has been very well received by the photography community, and is now referred to by countless Photography websites, blogs and forums (such as LDPT, ILP and DWF)around the world).

In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home "photo printers", when people upload their photos to a local drug store website and pick them up a few hours later, we hear this all the time - How in the world do Professional Photographers charge $55 for an 8x10 when they cost just $1.50 at the drug store?
Here's why.
Simply put, you're not just paying for the actual photograph, you're paying for time and expertise. First, let's look at the actual time involved. If you don't read this entire page, at least read this first part.
For a two hour portrait session:
- one hour of travel to and from the session - two hours of shooting - 30 minutes of setup, preparation, talking to the client etc. - 30 minutes to load the photos onto a computer (2 - 4 Gb of data) - 30 minutes to back up the files on an external drive - 3 - 4 hours of Photoshop time including cropping, contrast, color, sharpening, saving a copy for print and a copy for the internet and backing up the edited photographs  - 2 - 3 hours to talk to the client, answer questions, receive their order and payment, order their prints, receive and verify prints, package prints, schedule shipment and drop package off at Fed Ex. - For local customers, we also print a set of all of their photos, and meet them at our studio to review the photos and place their order. Meeting and travel time averages 2 hours.
You can see how one two hour session easily turns into more than ten hours of work from start to finish. So when you see a Photographer charging a $200 session fee for a two hour photo shoot, you are not paying them $100 / hour.
For an eight hour wedding:
- I won't bore you with the details, but an eight hour wedding typically amounts to at least two to three full 40 hour work weeks worth of time. Again, if they are charging you $4,000 for an eight hour wedding, you are not paying them $500 / hour.
Now for the expertise.
Shooting professional photography is a skill, acquired through years of experience. Even though a quality camera now costs under $2,000 taking professional portraits involves much more than a nice camera.
Most Professional Photographers take years to go from buying their first decent camera to making money with their photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera itself, there is a mountain of other equipment involved, as well as numerous software programs used to edit and print photographs, run a website etc.
And let's not forget that you actually have to have people skills, be able to communicate, make people comfortable in front of the camera - and posing people to make them look their best in a photograph is a skill all by itself.
Think of it this way - the next time you pay $X to get your hair done, a pair of scissors only costs $1.50. But you gladly pay a lot more to hire a Professional.
What about the cheap studios at the mall?
Please don't compare us to the chain store studios. But if you must, consider all of the time and work that we put into our photographs, compared to what they do. Good luck getting a two hour photo shoot at a chain store. Not to mention they won't come to the beach! And of course, look at our work compared to theirs. You get what you pay for.
The truth is, most of the mall and chain store studios lose money. In fact, in 2007 Wal-Mart closed 500 of their portrait studios because of the financial drain they were putting on the company. What the chain stores bet on is that you'll come in for some quick and cheap photos, and while you're there, you'll also spend $200 on other things. They don't have to make money, they are just there to get you in the door.
Conclusion
We hope that those who have taken the time to read this page will have a better understanding of why professional photographs cost so much more than the ones that you get from your local drug store.

When Michelle woke up on Christmas day, she was greeted by the sweet smelling rose pedals that led her to the living room. As they both sat down to open their gifts Robert handed her a box then as michelle got closer to the real gift robert went down on one knee and asked Michelle to marry him.

Back in August, I had the pleasure of photographing Louis and Tiffany's wedding at the beautiful Fort MacArthur chapel in San Pedro. I was Lucky enough to have a special guest second shooter and good friend by the name of Sean Azul .
The day was slight over cast but gorgeous. With aisles full with family and friends, Tiffany came down the isle glowing and beautiful as ever. Louis looked pretty damn Dapper himself. How It All Began

Project Cuddle™ is the result of one woman's crusade to help prevent infants from being abandoned. Debbe Magnusen fostered over 30 drug-exposed babies, while raising two biological children. Eventually five of those beautiful little ones were adopted and became part of the Magnusen Family.

The Project Cuddle™ crisis line was actually formed from the living room of Debbe's home, with the hope of ending baby abandonment. Within 12 hours of opening the 24 hour crisis-line, Project Cuddle got its first crisis call. A frightened woman that had hidden her pregnancy from everyone she knew, was due to deliver any and had no prenatal care. There was no time to waste. Debbe had only days to orchestrate a safe and legal alternative to abandonment, Project Cuddle™ was able to retain an attorney, a family wanting to rescue and adopt the baby, as well as an obstetrician, hospital and social counselor, Debbe Magnusen coached this woman through the delivery of a beautiful baby girl. After the baby was delivered into the arms of the adoptive parents, the birth mother said to Debbe. "I feel like I've done something good for the first time." The woman did not break the law, the baby was safe and a rescue couple was overjoyed at having a new daughter in their lives.

Tragically, babies are being abandoned across the nation on a daily basis. Since its inception, Project Cuddle™ has saved over 600 of babies across the country and into Canada from the fate of being abandoned, or worse. John Stamos is the National Spokesperson for the organization. With John's help, the charity has been able to create a school video to educate students on the importance of calling for help instead of abandoning your baby. Oprah and John Surprised Debbe and Project Cuddle™ by being featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Project Cuddle™ was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity in 1994. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the organization, which Debbe runs on a day-to-day basis with the assistance of volunteers and a minimally-paid staff. Your generous donations are always appreciated and help us to save the lives of more babies from the fate of abandonment.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of shooting the ever so great "Dinner by the bay event" at The Reef in Long Beach, California. This year was extra special because not only was it sold out, but several celebrities showed up and helped raise thousands of dollars at the event. There were silent auctions, Live auctions and for the first time, you were able to make a flat donation of $2,500 to save a baby. It costs project cuddle approximately $2,500 to save each baby. The project cuddle president Frank Lozano asked every who would like to save a baby by donating $2,500 to come up to the stage with in 5 min the entire stage was full. Great Job Frank!
The celebrities that were in attendance were John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Scott Grimes from E.R. even Extra was in attendance. The event was great as usual I had an amazing time covering the event. Debbe, Thank you for allowing me to take part in this amazing event.

this beautifully designed cake was designed and donated by award winning chefs Chris Russom & Marjorie Chue. The cake was a beautiful alice in wonderland theme. Now one of my new preferred wedding cake vendors. ;)

While I was having my blog face lift, I shot several weddings. We were so excited to have our new blog, we forgot to blog a few events. so here is the first of a few...
You may remember Francis & Christine from a previous blog post on their engagement. This time I had my long time friend Bill Wilbur of Classic Images Photography second shoot with me. We had a blast with all of Christine & Francis' families. We even got to see some previous clients of mine who in attendance at the wedding Chris & Lovelyn Prueher.
The setting was beautiful! It had plenty of greenery and tons scenic areas. With Christine looking beautiful as ever, she set forth to meet up with her prince for their "first look". Wow talk about emotions. It almost brought tears to my eyes seeing these two embrace one another. Here are several photos from their beautiful wedding. I hope you enjoy... At The Christmas Party on Monday Giesla Prishker and myself were talking about photographing her model friend who came out from Miami for a few a few days. We wanted to something fun but urban. So we went down to downtown Orange. Rudy Arpia, Alfonso Moreno, Rudy Loza & the famous Gisela Prishker were in attendance. Overall were all were able to capture a ton of amazing images. On Monday evening I headed out to meet up with a bunch of new friends. I take part in a fairly new photography forum that is fully in spanish. Forodeforografos.com. Its a a new forum designed to share help and learn from different Photographers from around the world. From highly experienced to the novice photographer. The Forum (which was created by my friend Rudy Arpia) caters to 21 Latin American Countries. One of the members decided to suggest to have a 1st annual Christmas Party. Thats were Monday comes in. We met up at Maggiano's Little Italy. Let me say the food was amazing! Just wanted to say thank you for all of the members who came.

Leather Craftsmen Christmas Pizza Party

On Wednesday, Rudy Arpia & I drove up to hollywood to the Studio of Robert Evans, for the Leather craftsmen Christmas Pizza Party. Robert Evans is the Wedding Photographer to the Stars. He shot Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes', Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston's Weddings. It was awesome! We got to meet some amazing people in our industry. It's awesome to be able to hang out with other photographers and catch up with or meet them for the first time. I was lucky enough to meet Joe Photo for the first time. Aside from being a kick ass photographer, he's also a genuinely great guy! Others there were, Becker, Jessica Claire, Joe Buissink, Lauren Hillary, Sara France, John Barber, Mark Weisberg, Jules Bianchi, John Mireles, Chenin Boutwell, Gisela Prishker, Steve Hoffmann, Kurt Hilmerson and plenty others. Special thanks to Ira Gershoff from Leather Craftsmen for putting on such a great event.

Newport Beach Wedding, Aboard the ICON

Well the surprise is over! As some of you are aware from a previous post. When Drew proposed to Kim, he not only took the roll as the groom to be, but also as wedding Coordinator. Kim had no idea where and how she was going to get married. She only knew she was going to get married on the 11th of November. She was given specific instructions to be ready for pick up by a limosine at 3:30 pm. The Driver was told not to tell her where he was going. When Kim arrived to the ICON she was super excited.

The ceremony took place in the Newport Harbor. It was led by Mr Simpson. (Drew's Father) With it being an evening wedding we were able to take advantage of the mood and romance for their romantic session together. With plenty of music and lots of energetic friends and family the night was a blast.

Let me first say... "Hey Drew you hooked it up! Great Job!" Also thanks for having me! You two are great!
